YOU WILL NEED

  • I use 4-medium weight yarn for all the appliqués in this pattern.

  • Colors you will need: white, black, yellow

  • A 5mm and 6.5mm hook

  • Tapestry needle

  • Card-stock if you want to make it into a greeting card.

  • Felt -optional if you want to make it into a piece of decor.

Hook

Yarn

The stitches/ skills you will need to know and KEY:

  • Chain (ch)

  • Slip Stitch (sl st)

  • Single crochet (sc)

  • Half double crochet (hdc)

  • Double crochet (dc)

  • Triple crochet (tc)

  • Increase (inc

  • Weave ends and finish off.

Final Dimensions: 

3.5 x 7 inches

CROCHET PATTERN

Head

With two strands of white on a 6.5mm hook, 

Round 1: Work 6 sc into ring – 6 sts. Do not join, continue in a spiral.

Round 2: (2 sc) in each st —12 sts
Round 3: [(2 sc) in next sc, sc in next sc]— 18 sts
Round 4: [(2 sc) in next sc, sc in next 2 sc]— 24 sts
Finish off and weave ends.

Eyes— MAKE 2

With black and a 5mm from hook, 

Round 1: work 4 sc into a magic ring – 4 sts. Do not join, continue in a spiral.

Round 2: Switch to yellow (2 sc) in each stitch — 8 sc

Sl st into the first yellow stitch. Finish off and weave ends.

With a long piece of black yarn and a tapestry needle, sew in the beak and the spots on the top of its head.

Body

With two strands of white on a 6.5mm hook, chain 7

Round 1: sc in the second chain from the hook, sc in the next 5 sc, 3 sc in the last chain (now you will work up the other side of the chain), sc in the next 2 sts, 2 sc in the last stitch (14 sc) Do not join.

Round 2: 2 sc in the first sc, sc in the next 5 sts, 2 sc in the next three sts, sc in the next 5 sts, 2 sc in the last two sts. (20 sc)

Round 3: *1 sc in the first stitch, 2 sc in the next*, sc in the next 5 sts, repeat from *—* three times, sc in the next 5 sts, repeat from *—* two times. (26 sc)

Round 4: *1 sc in the next two sts, 2 sc in the next stitch,* sc in the next 5 sc, sc, hdc, 2 dc, chain 2, dc, hdc, 2 sc over the next 6 sts, repeat from *—* one time, sc in the next 5 sts, repeat from *—* two more times. (32 sts)

Finish off and weave ends.

Wing-

 With two strands of white on a 6.5mm hook make a magic ring, you will be working in rows and not in a circle.

Row 1: 3 sc into magic ring, pull tight, chain 1 and turn

Row 2: 2 sc in each stitch across. Chain 1 and turn. (6 sc)

Row 3: Sc in the first stitch, 2 sc in the next, repeat across. Chain 1 and turn. (9 sc)

Row 4: sc in the first two stitches, 2 sc in the next, repeat that across. Chain 1 and turn. (12 sc)

Row 3: sc in the first three stitches, 2 sc in the next, repeat that across. (15 sc)

Finish off and weave ends. 

With a long piece of black yarn and a tapestry needle sew in small V shapes all over the wing.

Assembly: Hot glue all the piece into place and you’re done!

Place this owl on a bag, in a frame, hang from string or place on card stock as a greeting card or gift tag!
